Tricia and I attended the graduation yesterday at Worawa Aboriginal College. Worawa provides Year 7-12 education grounded in Aboriginal ways of knowing, doing and being for girls who come from Aboriginal communities in urban, regional and remote Australia.
The Presentation Day celebrated the achievements of students throughout the year as well as the first students to graduate from the VCAL program. For a number of years the SoEd has sponsored a Maths award, which Di Siemon has presented. This year RMIT Training also provided sponsorship for the five VCAL graduates to support their transition to further study.
The celebration spoke to the importance of culture and the strong leadership of women at and connected to the school. Language, dance and song were key components of the day.
