Sharing with you the following update from the Victorian Institute of Teaching regarding the  Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE). Andrew has the SoE data, which has shared with relevant Program Managers.

All new graduates have completed an accredited teaching program.  For the 2017 teaching year, transitional arrangements are in place to manage the additional requirement for Literacy and Numeracy assessment of graduate teachers. In future, this will be an Australia-wide requirement in order to graduate from a teaching program.

Of the over 3,500 new graduates we have registered:

  • More than 92% of have successfully passed the test.
  • 281 graduates currently have a condition on their registration that they satisfactorily complete the Literacy and Numeracy test within 6 months of being registered – this number is reducing as we are advised by graduates of their results and we are aware that many have already enrolled for the next testing window.

Of the 281 graduates with this condition:

  • 171 have not yet successfully completed both parts of the test and could no resit the test prior to registration;
  • the remaining 110 have not sat the test for family, medical or access reasons; and
  • this is 8% of graduates.

New graduates make up 2.8% of our 125,000 registered teachers.
