Teaching respectful relationships

The recent murder of 25-year old Courtney Heron in Parkville sadly highlights a range of issues around how we care for people with mental illness as well as gendered violence.

In education I know many of you deal with these issues in your day-to-day work.

One of the recommendations of Victoria’s Royal Commission into Family Violence was to make respectful relationships education mandatory in all schools. This Conversation piece by Deakin researchers Prof Amanda Keddie and A/Prof Debbie Ollis reviews the rollout of the Respectful Relationships Resource Kit to 1,000 government, Catholic and independent Victorian schools. This article explains how the program works and presents some positive early findings.
