Work will begin shortly to restore the Australian Rules Football oval at the Bundoora campus. The football oval was a key feature of the campus before it was damaged by drought, and hasn’t been in use for over a decade.
The first stage investment will activate the oval for use by February 2018. RMIT is now working to secure funding for the second stage to build further sports and research capabilities at Bundoora.
The new football ground will help boost student participation in extra-curricular activities on campus, and is the first step towards creating an RMIT Women’s AFL team and hosting high level competitions, as well as hosting other highly participative sports like ultimate frisbee and touch rugby. In addition, it will give our Exercise Science, Health and Education students access to athletes, local community and facilities to conduct authentic testing, therapy and treatments, as well as better pathways into community teams and organisations.
