I am delighted to announce our new Deputy Head, L&T – A/Prof Amanda Telford.
Many of you already know Amanda as a passionate teacher who has won numerous awards for her teaching excellence. She has more than 20 years experience in the secondary and tertiary sectors. She has taught in secondary schools and served as Head of Department in Health & PE. She has more than 10 years experience as a program manager of health and physical education degrees at RMIT and Federation University. Across her career she has developed exceptionally strong links with industry and has been an adviser for state and federal governments in her field. Amanda has worked closely with VCAA for the past 12 years as a member of VCE Physical Education Study design review boards, as an examiner and reviewer.
Professional learning is a passion for Amanda. For more than 10 years she has worked with governments across four states to run L&T conferences for HPE educators.
Amanda is also an accomplished researcher, with particular strengths in the scholarship of learning and teaching. She has led over $3.5 million of research as a Chief investigator and has over 100 research and professional publications. She has authored a staggering 30 textbooks used throughout Australia and New Zealand, including the leading senior secondary textbooks used in Victoria (VCE) and Western Australian schools in health & physical education.
In her interview Amanda presented a compelling vision for L&T in the school for the next 12 months. It’s also the only interview in which I have been invited to engage in a group task involving pool noodles!
My thanks once again to Peter, who has led L&T in the school during some challenging times. I am pleased that he will be working to provide a well-supported handover to Amanda over the coming months.
I know Amanda will bring a collaborative, passionate and positive approach to the role during this important phase in the school’s future. I am excited to be working with her and welcome her to the Senior Leadership Group.
