In September 2019, a comprehensive and independent review of NAPLAN was announced and is being jointly undertaken by the Vic, NSW, Qld and ACT state governments.
The review is being led by Emeritus Professor Barry McGaw, Emeritus Professor William Louden and Professor Claire Wyatt-Smith, all experts in the fields of curriculum and assessment.
The purpose of the review is to identify what a standardised testing regime in Australian schools should deliver, assess how well NAPLAN achieves this, and identify potential short and longer-term improvements. In accordance with the review’s terms of reference, the panel will deliver its final recommendations to commissioning ministers in mid-2020.
The panel has produced an interim report and is now calling for written submissions. I know that a number of staff have informed perspectives about NAPLAN and we would welcome your thoughts on a SoEd submission to this review. Please get in touch with Kath Glasswell who will coordinate our contribution.
Submissions close on Friday 20 March 2020.
