NAIDOC Week

A message from Al below regarding NAIDOC week. I’m sorry I won’t be able to join school staff at the march on July 6. Victoria, Craige and our VCE mentors will be in China at the VCE Conference. But I look forward to seeing the photos of SoEd at the march! Do invite your students.

Some staff have asked about ways that they can get involved with the Indigenous community in Melbourne. We have a wonderful opportunity for this coming up. NAIDOC week will be celebrated from the 8th to the 15th of July. During this week there will be heaps of events to get involved with and this is a celebration of Indigenous people and culture in all its forms. This year’s theme of ‘because of her, we can’ is especially significant as it celebrates the brilliance and contribution of Indigenous women across Australia. More details can be found here: https://www.naidoc.org.au/

To kick off the celebrations there is going to be a NAIDOC March held on Friday the 6th of July, and RMIT will be sending a contingent. Our contingent will begin at RMIT and walk up to the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service on Nicholson Street in Fitzroy. From there we will join the march and walk to Federation Square. We would really like the School of Education to be a strong presence in this contingent and I would like to encourage you all to attend. For more information and to register your attendance please follow this link: https://www.rmit.edu.au/staff/our-rmit/events/2018/july/naidoc-march

I can’t wait to see you all there.

Cheers,
Al.
