This symposium, organised by the RMIT Academy, examines teaching and learning futures and particularly the evolution of online and blended learning approaches. Provocation for this symposium will be provided by Professor Barney Dalgarno from Charles Sturt University. He will examine the unbundling of the university learning experience, taking existing notions of blended learning to a whole new level. In particular, a future scenario will be explored in which an unbundled degree product driven by a deregulation political agenda and enabled by artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies could have a major impact on student learning experiences and academic career paths. This future scenario is illustrated by the You Tube video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTY3wPj9NU4&feature=youtu.be and the printed supplement at https://barneydalgarno.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/unbundled-higher-education-supplement.pdf . More broadly, symposium participants will also be encouraged to consider blended and polysynchronous learning designs as a step towards these aspirational futures.
