As the year rolls to an end we will farewell three staff from the VE part of the school.

Michael Considine has been part of the RMIT VCE and Foundation Studies programs as a Media and History teacher, student placement Coordinator, and the VCE International Coordinator Onshore and Offshore (China). Michael’s promptness in dealing with matters and his amazing attention to detail have made him valuable in these roles. Michael has welcomed many international students and seen them through from enrolment to graduation and has mentored several new teachers for VIT registration.  Michael who is a keen golfer and Magpie supporter, a terrific cook and cyclist has decided to devote more time to these  interests as he embarks on the next phase. The school wishes Michael a happy and leisurely retired life.

Jan Ham is also moving into retirement mode. Jan has been an inspirational member of the VCE staff from the days of the Tertiary Orientation Program (TOP) and has served in several roles over the decades. Jan taught VCE at the Australian Ballet School, developed and coordinated the Copenhagen program bringing  Danish students to study at RMIT, and worked as the English coordinator, International Students Coordinator, Program Coordinator and Program Manager over the years. Her passion for English Literature and her dedication to her students were evident to anyone who has known Jan. She spared no effort in caring for every student in her classes and many students have expressed their respect, gratitude and affection for her over the years. The plants around the corridors of Level 5 bear testimony to the unfailing care and nurture provided by Jan even over the holidays. She will be greatly missed and the school wishes her well in her retirement.

We also extend best wishes to Margaret Hanrahan who is retiring after many  years with the School of Education. Margaret has had many roles in SoE from teaching EAL, TAE and in Ed Support programs to Coordinating work placements. In the last few years she has been an integral part of the Education Support team. She has been a wonderful passionate teacher and mentor to many staff in her years with SoE.  We have shared many memories, stories and endless exchanges of ideas.  Margaret will no doubt be moving to many new and great things in her retirement with the same passion and energy. Thank you Margaret. We wish you the very best for the future.

Happy retirement to Michael, Jan and Margaret. I hope we might have a drink at our upcoming Christmas lunch to mark this significant occasion and thank you all in person for your many years of dedication to RMIT and SoE.
