In August 2019, the ACECQA Board conducted a scheduled review of their qualification assessment guidelines and requirements, drawing upon feedback they have received over the last two years.

As a result of the review, a number of changes will be made to their requirements. The SoEd ECE team are well across these, but other staff may not yet have seen them. They are summarised below:

  • Quantify the minimum volume of early childhood content, and minimum number of supervised professional experience days with children before they start formal schooling, required in birth to 12 and birth to eight ITE courses
  • Clarify expectations in relation to credit arrangements from lower level qualifications (e.g. the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care)
  • Clarify the early childhood background and experience of staff leading the development and delivery of course content
  • Include a new requirement that applications for re-approval should include evidence of evaluation of the program since the previous approval.

The changes will apply to all applications received from 1 July 2020.

As you know, our new GD204 Grad Dip in Early Childhood Education was recently approved.
