Gen Hall, our SoEd Belonging Lead has put together some tips as we move our learning online. This week she focuses on helping students settle in to an online learning context.
- Make sure cameras are turned on during Collaborate Ultra sessions. Seeing the faces of students and the teacher/lecturer can help everyone feel more connected.
- Check in with students at the start of each session to see how they are going. For example, students could share images of the space where they are working, photos of their pets, or interesting things they have seen/experienced in their day.
- Consider making online interactions with students more ‘chatty’ (as you would speak to them in person) rather than more formal (as tends to occur when communicating with students in writing).
