At last Friday’s Education Council meeting Ministers agree that the Report of the National Review of Teacher Registration be published and that AITSL develop an implementation plan for consideration by Ministers at the December Education Council meeting.
As background – earlier this year AITSL supported an expert panel to review teacher registration in Australia to ensure processes are nationally consistent, rigorous and focused on teacher quality. More than 6,500 teachers and school leaders provided feedback through an online survey.
The final report outlines 17 recommendations to strengthen teacher registration.
Other outcomes of the Education Council meeting include the National School Reform Agreement, the revised procedures and standards for ITE accreditation, NAPLAN, bullying and Early Learning Reform Principles. All are summarised in the communique.
Separately, AITSL has advised of new reporting lines within AITSL with Initial Teacher Education now located within the broader Teaching and School Leadership Team, under Danny Pinchas’ responsibility. AITSL sees this realignment as providing a more coherent approach in supporting the sector and teachers throughout all career stages. Edmund Misson, as Deputy CEO AITSL has taken on responsibility for AITSL’s Corporate, Finance and Business Delivery areas while retaining Assessment for Migration as well as Research and Evaluation.
