Terri Butler, MP, Member for Griffith, QLD and Shadow Minister for Employment Services, Workforce Participation and Future of Work addresses the ACDE Forum
The Australian Council of Deans of Education (ACDE) annual Deans’ Forum was held last week and several members of the SoEd Senior Leadership Group bunkered down at the Royal Park hotel at the airport for two days of stimulating engagement with 130 leaders from Schools of Education across Australia. Also in attendance were representatives from the Federal Department of Education & Training, AITSL, ACECQA, state regulators and Universities Australia. It was a great opportunity to connect with colleagues, debate pressing issues and share practice.
The ACDE Annual Report 2018 is available here.
The focus of our work together was the new Teaching Performance Assessment (TPA). One of the major initiatives emerging from TEMAG, the TPA is “a tool used to assess the practical skills and knowledge of pre-service teachers against the Graduate Teacher Standards in the final year of their initial teacher education program” (AITSL website). From next year the TPA will be an important part of our ITE programs, All staff in the ITE programs. All courses scaffold the building of knowledge and skill development towards this summative. All VCE staff who supervise MTP students will also need to understand the TPA.
